MANANARA NORTH

A Biosphere Reserve, the national park of Northern Mananara has two parts: a terrestrial block with coastal forest, and a marine block, comprising beaches, reef systems and a flotilla of small islets around Nosy Atafana. Mananara North is located about 185 km north of Soanierana Ivongo at the entrance to the bay of Antongil. It is the only place in Madagascar where tourists can be sure to see Aye-Aye in the wild, on Aye-Aye Island. There are many endemic plants and animals. Three kilometers south of the town is a beautiful bay protected by a reef, with shallow and provides safe swimming. Mananara National Park and Biosphere reserve is one of the most interesting park inland despite of unreliable to say the least because by road is impossible in wet season , by boat is sometimes a bit risky and the flight does not exist anymore

MAROANTSETRA AND THE MASOALA PENINSULA

Maroantsetra is situated about 110 km north of Mananara North. It is the wettest zone of Madagascar. It is good to visit from September to December. Despite difficulty of access and dodgy weather, this is perhaps the leading destination for eco-tourists who want to see Madagascar's most important natural habitat in terms of biodiversity.

NOSY MANGABE

Nosy Manga Be is at the Bay of Antongil providing wonderful opportunities of nocturnal animals such as the Aye-aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis). It is a good place to see humpback whales between July and August. It has beautiful sandy coves, marvellous trees with huge buttress roots and also strangler figs. There is plenty to see on a day visit, including the weird and wonderful leaf-tailed gecko. There is no hotel in the Island, so you have to camp in the thatched shelters.
