Birding tour Tana - Andasibe - Antsirabe - Ranomafana - Ranohira - Ifaty - Madagascar for 20 days
Day 1: Tana
Arriving at Ivato international airport, clear customs and meet Ortour representative for transfer to Anjary Hotel (midrange) or at Palissandre (top) for overnight
Day 2-3-4: Tana - Andasibe
Morning drive toward Andasibe where tourists are expected to see and meet the biggest quasi-untailed lemur known as the Indri (indri indri). Andasibe is a rainforest area covered of 810 Hectare Park; the national park of Analamazaotra often referred to Périnet is the Indri's home. Indri is quite common to spot because of its amazing call that you can hear 2km away.
Visit including early morning walk at Mantadia to spot the famous Madagascar flufftail, Madagascar snipes, Pitta like ground roller, Scally ground roller, red capped coua, etc. Stay at Hotel Feon'ny Ala (Midrange) or Hotel Vakona (Luxury)
Day 5: Andasibe - Antsirabe
Leave Andasibe so early and drive to Antsirabe. It takes most of the day to get there. Antsirabe is situated 170km south of Tana. It is known for its large industries just after the capital. Overnight at Le Retrait (midrange) or at Thermes (top)
Day 6-7-8: Antsirabe - Ranomafana
Two hours drive to get to Ambositra, the famous woodcarving centre of Madagascar. Spend few hours visiting the art shops of Malagasy crafts. After lunch, continue driving toward Ranomafana which might take the whole afternoon. Late afternoon arrival at the rainforest area of Ranomafana;
On the 7th day, start the visit into the forest to spot the endemic birds in the area including the Pitta-like Ground roller, Velvet Asity, Frances Sparrow hawk, Madagascar Buzzard, etc. Also, Ranomafana is very rich in animal species as well; it is famous for its rare lemur composed of 13 species such as the Golden Bamboo lemur, the Greater Bamboo lemur, etc. Overnight at Hotel Manja (midrange) or at Hotel Centr'est (top)
Day 9-10: Ranomafana - Ranohira
After breakfast, leave Ranomafana and drive toward Ambalavao. Arriving at Ambalavao, visit the park of Anja where you could easily find ring-tails, and numerous bird species like Madagascar wag-tail, Hammerkop, Squacco heron, Madagascar Buttonquail, etc. Continue driving to the big gate of the southern part of the island. Our journey today ends at the national park of Isalo. On the next day, morning visit to see the Benson's rock thrush at the Relais de la Reine. There are also bunch of other bird species locally endemic.
Overnight at Hotel Orchidée (midrange) or at Jardin du Roy (top)
Day 11: Ranohira - Ifaty
Long drive toward the western capital of the Vezo fishing people. Along the way, just right after the Zombitse/Vohibasia national park which is home Appert's Greenbul, and Giant coua; you can see many species of Baobabs, and Mahafaly tombs.
Keep on driving till we get to Tuléar, town of the Vezo fishing men. Ifaty is just 27km north of Tulear. Overnight at Ikotel (mid range) or at Dunes Ifaty hotel (top)
Day 12-13: Ifaty
Leave earlier in the morning for bird walk in the spiny desert to spot the endemic species found in the area including the Running Coua, the Subdesert Mesite and Brown mesite, different species of Vangas including the Lafrasney's, Chabert's Madagascar Harrier hawk, etc.. In the afternoon, relax and overnight at Ikotel or at Dunes Ifaty hotel (top)
Day 14-15: Ifaty - St Augustin - Tulear
Morning transfer to St Agustin, the finest beach and has beautiful coral reefs to spot fish in the ocean. A little stop at Andatabo in order to spot the Red shouldered vanga, crested coua, running Coua and other more. This is an area of history and natural wonders, including dramatic sand dunes, and a cave swimming pool. After hours of relax on the beach, drive back to Tuléar for overnight at Paletuvier or
Victory Hotel
Day 16: Tulear - Tana
Take a flight to get to Tana. Stay at Anjary Hotel (midrange) or at Colbert (top) for overnight.
Day 17-18-19: Tana - Ampijoroa
Leave Tana in the morning and drive to Ankarafantsika. Ankarafantsika is situated in the west part of Tana. It is home to many endemic species of fauna and flora.
Stay in a Bungalow
At the park you can spot the famous Schelgel's Asity, Van dam's Vanga, Madagascar Fish eagle, Madagascar Jacana, etc. Stay in a Bungalow (high midrange)
Day 20: Ampijoroa - Tana
Leave early in the morning driving to the capital (Tana). Transfer to hotel Anjary (midrange) or at Colbert (top)
