Big South Tour Madagascar for 16 days
1st day: Tana
Upon arrival, meet Ortour representative and transfer to hotel. Overnight at:
Colbert (top) or Anjary Hotel (midrange)
2nd-day: Tana - Antsirabe
In the morning, leave Tana and drive to Antsirabe which lies 170km south of Tana in the national route number 7; it takes almost three to four hours drive to get there. Antsirabe is one of the coolest towns in Madagascar and it is the capital of Pousse-pousse (rickshaw). Along the way, you can see many shop-selling products made from raffia and Malagasy crafts as well. Arriving in Antsirabe, city tour where there are lots of mining shops selling precious stones; visit the shop of Joseph and then drive to Tritriva Lake.

3rd day: Antsirabe - Ambositra
After two hours drive from Antsirabe, we will have few hours stop at Ambositra, the capital of woodcarving. Visit the workshop of Jean et Freres and a few other shops of craft. It is possible to make a day trekking to Razafimaniry village to see the wonderful landscape. Overnight at Hotel l'Artisan (midrange, top)

4th day: Ambositra - Ranomafana
This day, we leave Ambositra and our destination is to get to Ranomafana National Park; arriving there, half hour stops at Namorona waterfall. The park is home of the famous Golden Bamboo lemur, the Greater Bamboo lemur. You can have a nice walk in the village or just relax at the hot-spring swimming pool.

5th day: Ranomafana - Sahambavy
Morning walk back to the forest to see the park's endemic fauna and flora. After morning visit at the rainforest of Ranomafana, direct drive to Fianarantsoa which is the capital of the Betsileo ethnic group; but first visit the Sahambavy tea plantation before getting there.
Stay at Hotel du Lac (midrange).
6th day: Sahambavy - Isalo
It takes almost the whole day to drive to Isalo National Park. The Park is covered of 81 540 hectare of the eroded Jurassic sandstone massif. Isalo's topography is characterized by alternating flat grassy plains and sandstone ridges, sculpted by wind and water into fanciful shapes. Isalo is the most visited park in Madagascar; the main things to see in the park are lemurs such as the Verreaux's Sifaka, different bird species as well. Also, there are lots of Pachypodium (elephant foot), rock formations, natural swimming pool, and window (fenêtre) for sun set and water falls. Overnight at Orchidée ou au Relais de la Reine/Jardin du Roy (top)
7th day: Isalo
In the morning, we are going in the park of Isalo. We will walk along the Namaza trail to spot few species of lemurs such as the Verreaux's Sifaka, Red-fronted brown lemur and different species of birds like the Benson's rock thrush which is endemic in the area. And then, we continue our walk relaxing at the natural swimming pool and then drive back to the hotel.

8th -10 day: Isalo- Domaine d'Ambola
This day, we are going to Domaine d'Ambola where it is the finest beach and has beautiful coral reefs to spot fish in the ocean. Leave Ranohira in the morning and we will pass through many species of Baobabs, the famous tombs of Mahafaly tribe which are very decorated and unique in the south-western part of the region. And just before the turn off for Beheloka, there is a good stand of spiny forest; then continue to the Natural Reserve of Tsimanampetsotsa. This is a large shallow lake. The reserve's main attractions are 70 species of birds, including plovers, couas, rock thrushes and flamingos, as well as its large population of ring-tailed lemurs. You will have the opportunity to see the radiated tortoise in its natural habitat as well the endemic blind fish. Overnight at Domaina d'Ambola (high midrange)
11th day: Domaine d'Ambola Itampolo
Leave Domaine d'Ambola and drive to Itampolo which is on the seaside lying at 95 km east of Beheloka. It is a small village of fisherman famous for its white sand beaches, very rich of lobsters. Stay at Hotel Sud Sud (low midrange)
12th day: Itampolo - Faux Cap
In the morning, drive from Itampolo to Faux Cap. Faux cap is a small village at the bottom of Madagascar; breezy beach side, known for the egg cell fragments of the elephant birds.
Stay at Libertalia (Top)
It would be necessary to note that both Itampolo and Faux Cap seem similar in activities, possessing not so much interesting fauna and flora but it has to be a stop to stay there since places are far away from each other'.
13th -14th day: Faux cap - Berenty
Leave Faux Cap and drive to Berenty in a bumpy road. In the area, there are species of plants which serve as habitat for a variety of wildlife. More than 200 ring-tailed lemurs are in the reserve; the dancing sifakas are the most interesting animals to spot in Berenty. Giant Coua is one of the endemic birds in Berenty. There are other species of birds and lemurs, especially those active at night, including the white-footed sportive lemur, the tiny mouse lemur.
Stay at Berenty Lodge.
15th day: Berenty Andohahela - Fort Dauphin
In the morning, drive to Andohahela national park. It protects some of the last remnants of rainforest in southern part of Madagascar as well as spiny forests and 13 species of lemurs. It also has more than 120 species of birds and various varieties of amphibians and reptiles. After the visit, drive to Fort'Dauphin.

16th day: Fort Dauphin - Tana
Our trip ends at taking afternoon flight to get back to Antananarivo.
